Ever wanted to spend all day every day at the fair and get paid for it? Well the Missouri State Fair can make that dream come true. And you’ll even be paid. There’s just one catch, they expect you to work.
The Missouri State Fair is getting ready to hire there temporary and seasonal employees for this year. Applications will start being accepted at The Personnel Office in the Administration Building across from the Grandstand June 23. So what types of jobs are available?
There’s admissions, where you tear tickets and may handle cash. You can work backstage, which may get you behind the scenes at concerts. There’s ushering and ticket taking at the grandstand. There’s hospitality, where you’ll greet the public and answer their questions. There’s driving or acting as a host on one of the trams. There’s also departments like janitorial, publicity, carnival, revenue and the youth crew.
The youth crew, if your wondering, performs outdoor work mornings and afternoons at the fair.
As someone who spent significant time at the fair hanging out at our broadcast tent, I can tell you, most of these jobs are going to leave you hot, sweaty and dusty. They will, however, also give you a great tan. Just don’t forget the sunscreen, because that tan can turn into a burn quickly.
If you’re looking at something that’ll keep you in air conditioned comfort, working the carnival might be for you. Yeah, you’ll be in one of those small carnival ticket booths selling ride tickets and passes, but at least you’ll be cool. You might also apply for a job in revenue. Those folks are dealing with and counting money, and that’s done in air conditioned comfort.
So if you’re looking to make some summer moolah, the State Fair can help put some green in your pocket. You can learn more about employment with the fair on the Missouri State Fair website. Their downloadable application even lets you choose what department you desire to work in.
Good luck getting that job. And when you’re on a break stop on by our tent and say hello, we’ll be over by the Grandstand.
